Station 17 was founded by a group of local citizens from Doctors Lake volunteer fire department to provide fire service to the community. Station 17 served a volunteer based station for several years until the need arose for a full time fire rescue response, at that time Clay County Fire Rescue moved into the station and  a full time crew works out of the station 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The station houses Engine 17 a 2006 E One Typhoon with a Hale 1500 GPM pump holding 970 gallons of water. The station also houses a reserve engine Engine 171 and brush truck B17. E17 is an Advanced Life Support unit that provides fire suppression as well as rescue response for medical emergencies. Clay County Fire Rescue responded to over 16,000 calls last year of which Engine 17 responded to over 2,000 calls and was the busiest engine company.
